Iran is very wide and has many different
geographical and cultural regions. Officially Iran has 25 provinces:
Ardebil, Azarbayjan-e Gharbi, Azarbayjan-e Sharghi, Bushehr,
Chahar-mahal Bakhtiari, Esfahan, Fars, Gillan,
Hamedan, Hormozgan, Ilam, Lurestan, Markazi, Mazandaran,
Kerman, Kermanshahan, Khorasan, Kurdestan, Khuzestan,
Kohgilouye and Boyr-Ahmad, Sistan and Balouchestan, Semnan,
Tehran, Yazd, Zanjan.
Apart from
Tehran
(the capital of Iran), the visitor to Iran should
at least see Isfahan, Shiraz (Persepolis), and Mash-had.
There are other cities and towns to be seen. Don't forget the Caspian Sea rim if you love the beauty of nature. If there is a gate to Paradise, you will certainly find it in Ramsar, Lahijan, Bandar Anzali and Amol. Visit Yazd and Kerman if you are interested in Islamic architecture. Also visiting Mash-had and Qom are recommended for those interested in pilgrimage centers. A trip to Hamedan is worth to visit the tomb of Avicenna and see Ali-sadr, one of the unique natural limestone caves in the world.
