Menareh (Minaret):
- A tall building standing on both sides of the
entrance to a
mosque. There is a narrow path inside it
leading to the top. In the past, A person in charge of
announcing the prayer time (Muezzin) was used to climb this
and invite prayers to the mosque with a loud voice.
Tagh:
- A kind of construction that besides its charm,
was mainly used to distribute the weight of the roof among the
columns. In this way very large round shaped buildings could
be constructed without using concrete or iron bars.
Great example of Tagh can be found in
Imam Mosque
and
Vakil Mosque in Shiraz
where 48 columns carry the weight of the building.
Kashi-kari:
- A kind of art work constructed of small pieces of
colored ceramics, pieces of glass and mirror and golden bars
blended with the art of calligraphy to scribe the verses
of Koran, the Islamic Holy Book, and draw other religious
events on the walls and ceiling. Many masterpieces of this kind
have been preserved inside the mausoleums and mosques in
pilgrimage centers.
